Gramercy Park & Murray Hill

The Gramercy Park neighborhood is named after the private park located between East 21st and East 20th Street on Lexington Avenue. Comprised mostly of young professionals and families, it is the oldest residential neighborhood in Manhattan and encompasses the area from Union Square to 24th Street between First and Fifth Avenue, directly below Murray Hill. Its renowned exclusivity revolves around Gramercy Park, which is accessible only to privileged residents with keys

Even without access to the park, there is still much to see and do. Park lovers without the golden key are just as fond of having Union Square and Madison Square Parks nearby to relax and exercise. The neighborhood is well known for its unique and beautiful architecture - Victorian brownstones and the gargoyles at Irving Place evoke a London or Parisian ambience, and the pre- and post war co-ops and condos decorate the streets. Fine dining connoisseurs need only walk a few steps from their front door to savor the finest foods from Gramercy Park's famous restaurants including:

The Gramercy Tavern
Veritas
11 Madison Park
Tabla
Union Pacific
Blue Water Grill
Pete's Tavern

Major retailers like Barnes & Noble, Toys "R" Us and cinema complex UA Union Square Stadium 14 have turned Union Square into a popular shopping district. Shoppers with eclectic tastes like Gramercy Park for its easy downtown access to Soho, Murray Hill, Chinatown, and East Village.

Murray Hill extends from 29th street to 42nd Street between Fifth Avenue and the East River. Although it is a largely residential area that is comprised mostly of singles and professional couples and wealthy brownstone apartment owners, Murray Hill draws many visitors to its array of attractions. Some of New York's most famous architectural landmarks such as the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building are located in Murray Hill. Macy's at Herald Square, the self-proclaimed "World's Largest Store", the shops on 34th Street, and Lord and Taylor are popular destinations for all-day shoppers and provide an accessible contrast to the peaceful serenity of the residential buildings a couple blocks away. Asia de Cuba, Sushi Sen-Nin, Artisanal, and Water Club are just some of the outstanding restaurants in the area. Should one remember that the rest of New York has much to offer as well and venture away from Murray Hill, it is conveniently located adjacent to Midtown West - every tourist's destination, Midtown East - the corporate playing field, and the East River. For travel beyond borders, Penn Station, Grand Central Station and the heart of the subway system are a short walk away.
